Karma has worked for more than 16 years in the ICT field in Germany and Europe. began as a software programmer before she expanded her expertise to include areas such as databases, system testing, design patterns, digital signatures, and project life cycle management. Her role later evolved to encompass mentoring, quality assurance, and the creation of various documents and reports related to test management, requirements engineering, functional and technical specifications, data and object modeling, and system specifications. Her experience in the service and maintenance department has honed her problem-solving skills and customer service acumen.
Most of her projects have been with banks and insurance firms, including software development and management for Postbank, HSH Nordbank, and the German Savings Banks Association (DSGV). As an IT consultant, she has collaborated with major state banks like Deka Bank and Helaba in Frankfurt, working on projects such as planning and implementing software for country credit ratings and risk management, as well as managing the rollout of a complex application for credit rating assessments of individuals, airlines, real estate, and more. She has ensured compliance with stringent regulations and policies in Germany and Europe, such as MaRisk and Basel II, and has been involved in the HBCI (now FinTS) protocol for online banking in Germany.
Her three-year tenure in a German government office has equipped her with the skills to coordinate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders effectively. During her third year before she left Germany, she led a large-scale IT project involving multiple EU countries and institutions like the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), focusing on collecting, analyzing, and providing access to EU-wide energy data. Her expertise in big data management and data security was crucial. She has also mentored many juniors, helping them become successful professionals.
Since achieving a Master's degree in Computer Science and delving into the professional world immediately thereafter, she has never stopped learning to improve herself personally and professionally. She keeps herself updated by reading, writing and participating in various technical and leadership-building training and conferences. In the meantime, she also learns by sharing her knowledge when she is invited as a panellist. She registered an IT Consulting company with a business partner with the hope to advance the IT Consulting business in Nepal. This, however did not come to fruition. After completing her PhD, she joined the Federal Office of Justice in Bonn, Germany. She works as IT Project Coordinator and Deputy Equal Opportunities Officer.
One can add as a postscript that Karma excels at managing tasks within time and budget constraints, a skill that could be beneficial for Nepal.
